If surgical treatment for obesity is excluded in my policy, is there any way to UHC to pay?

Posted by beeman | Uncategorized | Friday 26 June 2009 1:47 am

I have United Health Care Choice Plus and I really want to have Lap-Band/weight loss surgery. I went to a seminar today and I just looked at my policy and it says that WLS is excluded. Is it worth appealing? Any suggestions on how I can get them to pay?

PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME AN ANSWER LIKE "GO TO THE GYM" OR "EAT LESS". ONLY ANSWERS TO THE QUESTION, PLEASE.
And don't tell me NOT to do the surgery. I'm not asking your opinions on weight loss surgery and dieting. I need some advice regarding my insurance. Thanks.

Hi, My name is Dana and I had the lap-band 2-1-06. It sure couldn't hurt to appeal, who know's they might make an exception. If they don't, you could go to my Dr. in Mexicalli. They are Fantastic! I paid with a cashier check approx $8,000..less then the price of a good used car. They helped out with airfare, put me up in a awesome hotel the night before surgery..picked me up from San Diego airport…drove me to the Hospital..all included! I spent 2 night in the hospital.(because were from the US..it's a bit far if there were any problems..the Dr. request we stay 2 days, before leaving.) They are so experienced..they have been doing the lap-band since 1997! E-mail me if you need any info @ rondana@comcast.net or you can contact me on "Myspace" @ http://www.myspace.com/drazey also @ http://www.bandgastricbypass.com/Dana
Hope you can figure something out..good luck with the Ins. Co. let me know how it goes..Dana
