Do you think people will listen to Mrs. Obama and begin eating more healthfully?

Posted by beeman | Costs Of Obesity | Sunday 13 September 2009 8:17 pm

I’m not a huge fan of the Obamas but she’s making so much sense. I’ve been saying this for years! I think its insane how many people complain about the cost of their diabetes/heart meds while stuffing their faces with chips and candies. People! Theres a direct correlation! If you eat yourself to obesity you will be sick. And you will be a drain on the health care system.

Why is our media encouraging obesity?

Posted by beeman | Costs Of Obesity | Thursday 10 September 2009 1:12 pm

Is it just me or does the media recently seem to be not only accepting obesity, but actively encouraging it? With their seemingly pro-obesity movies such as Hairspray, music such as Big Girl – Mika , and ad campaigns such as "true beauty" by dove. Many western nations are struggling against rising levels in obesity, the US and the UK in particular, so surely showing films, and playing music that encourages this kind of unhealthy lifestyle is going to be detrimental to society as a whole. As a direct result of this sort of acceptance of obesity, fewer obese people will feel encouraged to lose weight, thus putting yet further strain on already strained healthcare systems, which will lead to higher costs for the tax payer, and a reduction in the level of care available to those that choose lead a healthy lifestyle! If anything, i believe that our media should be leading the battle against obesity, and not allowing it to be thought of as acceptable, or even ‘beautiful’! Do you agree?

Which is worse, obesity or a terrible credit rating?

Posted by beeman | Costs Of Obesity | Monday 7 September 2009 5:46 am

Both are, for the most part choices. Both cost the community money — the obese person puts stress on the health care system and the financially irresponsible person is at risk for bankruptcy and having to rely on public assistance in their old age.

We mock fat people. Shouldn’t we mock financially irresponsible people too?

Or maybe no one should mock anyone. There’s a thought.
thanks for the link, but I’m 100% debt free.

Why does our culture tolerate obesity when in doing so we contribute to society’s ruin?

Posted by beeman | Costs Of Obesity | Friday 4 September 2009 5:52 am

No one seems to want to come out and tell the truth — that we are fat and getting fatter and more indolent. The health care costs down the road will be enormous! To the medical establishment it is much easier to pick on smokers, for example and brand them as ‘evil’ than it is to address the 800-pound gorilla in America’s living room.

With obesity-related health costs rising should Sundae services be shortened or eliminated for the fat?
